It is a great privilege for me to have been elected as President of NAPD and I look forward to continuing, with the Executive and Director, Clive Byrne, the work that the association is doing for our Principals and Deputy Principals.

Communication:

Following a very positive internal review of our communications and digital strategy, an action plan to update our website has been put in place. We hope to have a more user - friendly login section available online for our members in the near future. We are aiming to improve the twitter and blogs so that we can communicate regionally with members.

The potentially damaging dispute:

While we do not want to get involved in the current dispute between the DES and the ASTI. I urge all concerned not to hang our school leaders out to dry. This dispute has the potential to cause serious harm within our schools and to leave a lingering sour taste in our staff rooms in the years to come. It's important that all parties to this dispute take responsibility to ensure that this does not happen and that our staffs and leaders are supported in whatever needs to be done.

Teacher Supply:

Lately there has been a lot of discussion on the need for school leaders to ensure a good work-life balance and to look are their own well-being. How many of us can say that we have mastered that art? How many of us spend our family time worrying about school, worrying about our staff, worrying about our schools? This situation gets worse when we are looking for substitutes, be they long-term or short-term. Teacher supply has become a major issue. While we wait patiently (too patiently?) the publication of the report on teacher supply and while we recognise the need for this extra work, the major question of supply, and the lack of suitable candidates in certain subjects needs to be addressed immediately. I would urge the DES to look at this situation as a matter of urgency.

An bpolasaí oideachais Ghaelachta:

Fáiltímid go croíúil roimh an bpolasaí oideachais Ghaeltachta a foilsíodh le déanaí. Tá gá le tacaíocht agus áiseanna a chur le fáil dár gcomhghleacaithe atá faoi bhrú leanúancha sna scoileanna Gaeltachta.
